In Memory of an Icon...
Lets all celebrate his accomplishments and the music he has given the world to enjoy... Michael Jackson will never be forgotten!!

"He was like a sponge. Michael showed a curiosity for everything. It was unbelievable in someone so young. I appreciated watching it work." -- Quincy Jones
"Michael's a natural. He's a very hard worker and a super performer. But most of all, he's a real human being."

BREAKING LIFE...
You've seen them in everything from movies and tv commercials to on stage as dancers and in talent competitions. They come from all over the world, including right here in Los Angeles, CA. To most, a bboy/girl appears to live a life of glitz and glamour, especially here in LA, dancing for and with famous singers and artists. According to the media bboying, or “breakdancing” as the media likes to call it, is all about power, crazy spins, and flashy moves, motions that will make people stand up and go “Wow!” But is that all bboying is really about? What really defines LA's bboy scene?
LA bboys form a large community from all walks of life, but no matter how different or whatever background they may be coming from, they all share the common thread of being committed to learning and working hard. Like most, they struggle with the day to day existence of juggling school, work, family, and most importantly of all, bboying. Many bboys are students and working youth struggling to make ends meet while finding the time to incorporate bboying in their everyday lives, regardless of whether that means having to practice during breaks at work or in between classes.
Sure there is some glitz and glamour, but unlike “hiphop dance” or other forms of choreographed street dance, real bboying is the ability to dance to a breakbeat and express yourself creatively and skillfully. As presented in 4Soulutions new video “4Play,” bboys exhibit their pure ability outside of the spotlight and within their natural form. It takes a lot of work and years of practice and experience to be a better person and a bboy. True bboying is about being able to interpret the music freely, whether that means just doing footwork or toprocks, performing moves while in an upright position, or incorporating all the flashy moves that bboys are recognized and most known for. It's about being true to yourself and the bboy culture.

SUNDAY SOUL SESSION presents BBOY NAYTRON!!!

What's up man introduce yourself
YOOOO My name is Rene Abalos, better known as NayTron. I'm 25 years young and I represent Head Hunters, Soul Sector and Renegade Rockers I was born in the Philippines but I moved to San Jose, CA and have been B-boying for 11 years now.
From the Bay huh, give us a little northern exposure. How’s it living up there?
The BAY has fire that's all I know... There are a lot of nasty crews and individuals out here that need to get out there and start smashin' foo's and there are a lot of up and comers also, so it's a good vibe around the Bizaay, that's rap for Bay.
So its Naytron right, why choose Naytron?
Well, I've been collecting Transformers action figures since the 90s and I probably have over 500 now. Anyways, one day on the bus about 10 years ago, Roland (Head Hunters/Battle Born) was like yo, your name should be ReneTron cuz you got hella Transformers. I was like sounds cool and probably a week later we cut my real name out and BAM used Nay instead. NayTron it is, straight to the point Yaaaaa diiiiig ?
Transformers.. yeah I remember those hehe. Why do like ‘em so much? The characters from the Generation 1 Cartoon were too dope man... Their personalities were crazy, especially with their voices But the toys always took it. It was like getting two toys in one, sometimes even three C'mon if you saw a normal truck and Optimus Prime next to each other, which would you get? OPTIMUS PRIME cuz you get a truck AND a robot It's not rocket science kids
Transformers G1 or Animated?
Toughy... But of course I'd go for G1... I do wish Animated was still going on though. That could've easily been 2 more seasons... GAAAAAHHH
What can Naytron transform into?
I'd probably be a triple changer, an F-22 Raptor, Chevy Corvette Spider and ME
What can you say are your signature moves?
Hmmmm, I don't know maybe Naylo's and Megatron 90s. There's more but I don't wanna brag. I have a list somewhere, if someone finds it that person is one lucky son of a witch
Tell us about a break-thru moment in your bboy life.
When I learned the foundation of B-boying... It took 3-4 years after I was already breakin' to really learn the basics. So I was already doing mad tricks and style power before I was able to do a six step. HAHA pretty sad but it somehow worked out for me :D

Wow... through bboying where have you traveled to and what was your favorite place?
I've been to France, Holland, Tahiti, Mexico, Philippines and all over the USA... Favorite place to go to was the Philippines because the Bboys and Bgirls didn't have much out there. All they had were their friends, music, and the heart to get down, and that in itself was inspiring for me.
Have you ever thought of doing anything else besides bboying?
I used to play Basketball and if I wasn't Bboying today I'd probably be playing against Kobe and Lebron in the NBA, no joke... Come and test my J ... Boom Roasted
K, now we’re gonna do 4Your Info. Its when we ask you 4 Questions, 4 Answers

In a battle Rock, Paper or Scissors?
Scissors because I'd be cuttin' you up in pieces
If you had one last defining battle, who would it be against and what type of battle?
I don't have anyone in mind but the world... I'd like to battle anyone. Each battle is a defining battle against yourself. Treat each battle as if it were your last

Here’s your final question: how excited are you about the next Transformers movie?I'm going crazy waiting I’ve already got a midnight showing for the 23rd, and for the next night IMAX tickets. I know what a nerd... But I'm still AWESOME
PEACE out everyone...
Thank you NayTron it was a pleasure interviewing you.. check back again next sunday for another Sunday Soul Session..
SATURDAY NIGHT CRAVINGS presents AN EPIK PROPORTION

Graffiti has always been innovating and about taking letters to new heights. With this large culture expanding, many concepts have been played with and rarely is there much more room for a "new" style or font. Artists are spraying their way to obscure styles and unusual type letters that try to set themselves apart from the rest. We've seen letters and colors recycled and mixed, but sometimes graff artists have the agenda of just throwing their name in the game for fame; even rocking simple letters several hundred times in their city is satisfying enough. We've seen that there are in fact particular styles associated with the way society and times are in different cities around the world. In New York for example, with its fast paced way of living and its long graff history, we can see many colorful throwups. In contrast lies the Los Angeles associated style of many hard rocked straights and more block-type fonts, and due to city structure, rollers, rollers, rollers.

Sprinkled through many cities though, are graff artists who will take to trains as if bombing a huge canvas. Freights (in most cases) are always a more relaxed and "chill" way of painting your name however you please, without city or freeway commotion. The ambience and setting of train yards keeps a perfect tone with artists to display their artistic freedom.
Letters have possessed many characters and have taken many shapes, but none like the artist known as "EPIK" from crews: 63cents, ITD, and BMC.. Letters formed in literacy, a child can read, but what sets Epik apart from other simplistic letters is his amazing ability of sharing them with you as if they were people in life situations. Epik makes graffiti look fun and brings a different perspective to un-chartered limitations of rocking letters which the average person would never fathom. The imagination sometimes takes "characters" E P I and K to a Bar, a knockout in the ring, or battlefronts of wars remembered. Epik gives his letters a certain "concept" to engage in and can almost make them into a cartoon series. In some cases, his letters die, but EPIK continues to paint his way to bringing fresh life every time he steps up to a train. So keep an eye on this catch online, or follow him through your local train yard, because this artist has taken these concepts and rightfully honed them to where this type of style is well worth "jocking" and very "EPIK" indeed!

ANOTHER SATURDAY MORNING presents CEREAL IN A HALF SHELL..

It's Another Saturday Morning and it's time to dive back into the good ol'times. This morning, we will be discussing the best of the best cereal, Ralston's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cereal. This, I feel, is the greatest cereal created with sweet rice chex-like squares or as they called it "Ninja Nets". In actuality, the cereal didn't taste like rice chex and it didnt taste like it had sugar at all; it was just some weird rice cereal with some odd sweetener that made this cereal so unforgettable. It also came with "Ninja Marshmallows," similar to Lucky Charms, but better.. hehe. The 'mallows were shaped into little green baby turtles and ninja weapons such as ninja stars and Leonardo's sword. As an added bonus, the marshmallows also made your milk turn grrreeennnn!!! But that’s not all! The cereal always came with a toy, and one time I even got a ninja turtle bowl! Yes, an entire bowl, shrink-wrapped to the box, with one of the Turtle’s heads sticking out. As you can see, this was a one of a kind cereal. No other cereal, til this day, has ever been made to be like this. This was considered, to most 80s kids, the best cereal ever made. Sadly, the cereal was discontinued sometime in the mid 90s. Now it will just be in our happy 80s childhood memories.
