You've seen them in everything from movies and tv commercials to on stage as dancers and in talent competitions. They come from all over the world, including right here in Los Angeles, CA. To most, a bboy/girl appears to live a life of glitz and glamour, especially here in LA, dancing for and with famous singers and artists. According to the media bboying, or “breakdancing” as the media likes to call it, is all about power, crazy spins, and flashy moves, motions that will make people stand up and go “Wow!” But is that all bboying is really about? What really defines LA's bboy scene?
LA bboys form a large community from all walks of life, but no matter how different or whatever background they may be coming from, they all share the common thread of being committed to learning and working hard. Like most, they struggle with the day to day existence of juggling school, work, family, and most importantly of all, bboying. Many bboys are students and working youth struggling to make ends meet while finding the time to incorporate bboying in their everyday lives, regardless of whether that means having to practice during breaks at work or in between classes.
Sure there is some glitz and glamour, but unlike “hiphop dance” or other forms of choreographed street dance, real bboying is the ability to dance to a breakbeat and express yourself creatively and skillfully. As presented in 4Soulutions new video “4Play,” bboys exhibit their pure ability outside of the spotlight and within their natural form. It takes a lot of work and years of practice and experience to be a better person and a bboy. True bboying is about being able to interpret the music freely, whether that means just doing footwork or toprocks, performing moves while in an upright position, or incorporating all the flashy moves that bboys are recognized and most known for. It's about being true to yourself and the bboy culture.

Letters have possessed many characters and have taken many shapes, but none like the artist known as "EPIK" from crews: 63cents, ITD, and BMC.. Letters formed in literacy, a child can read, but what sets Epik apart from other simplistic letters is his amazing ability of sharing them with you as if they were people in life situations. Epik makes graffiti look fun and brings a different perspective to un-chartered limitations of rocking letters which the average person would never fathom. The imagination sometimes takes "characters" E P I and K to a Bar, a knockout in the ring, or battlefronts of wars remembered. Epik gives his letters a certain "concept" to engage in and can almost make them into a cartoon series. In some cases, his letters die, but EPIK continues to paint his way to bringing fresh life every time he steps up to a train. So keep an eye on this catch online, or follow him through your local train yard, because this artist has taken these concepts and rightfully honed them to where this type of style is well worth "jocking" and very "EPIK" indeed!
